SANParks says firefighters are concerned that a fire burning near the Pipe Track in Camps Bay could spread due to strong winds sweeping down the slopes of the Twelve Apostles mountain range.
SANParks spokesperson Charles Phahlane said about 50 firefighters were dispatched to the area after midday today.
Phahlane added that a helicopter arrived from George around 5 PM to assist the firefighting efforts.
He confirmed that residents have not yet been ordered to evacuate their homes.
“Our aim is to fight the fire and to keep it on the side of the mountain so that it doesn’t cross onto the urban edge.”
Phahlane said firefighters have not yet brought the blaze under control.
“It’s still touch and go. We are concerned about the wind because it is a major factor. We are hoping the helicopter will make a significant difference as we water-bomb the area and the ground crew continues operations.”
