Thousands of pro-Palestine protestors have called on South Africa to implement a bill that would provide a legal basis for boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel.

Saturday's march started in District Six and ended at Parliament, with a memorandum handed to House chairperson, Cedric Frolick.

Among the demands is the passing of the Apartheid Bill to isolate Israel and the shutting down of its embassy in Pretoria.

The demonstration follows findings from the United Nations commission of inquiry, the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court, accusing Israel of committing acts of genocide in Gaza.

COSATU, SAFTU, Gift of the Givers and Equal Education were among organisations that supported the march.

PAGAD member, Abdus Salaam Ebrahim, said they would continue to stand with the oppressed.

"Gangsters is someone that manipulates and wants to control people. Any system of oppression is a drug, so therefore we stand against it. We would like our communities and societies to educate. We must have a defiance campaign; eventually, we must defy all Zionist institutions in this country."
