Firefighters responded to a call of a fire on one of the parking levels at the mall just before noon.

A fire that broke out at Cavendish Square Mall on Tuesday afternoon has been put out, and trading has resumed.

The mall was evacuated as a precautionary measure after a blaze broke out on the third floor of the parking garage.

Fire services spokesperson, Edward Bosch, said it was unclear at this stage what caused the fire.

"Just before 12pm, the City of Cape Town's Fire & Rescue Service received a call of a fire on one of the parking levels at Cavendish Square Mall in Claremont. Upon arrival, crews discovered smoke issuing from the roof of the mall. Law enforcement was requested to assist with evacuating users from the building."
