A 17-year-old suspect is behind bars after being arrested with an illegal firearm and ammunition in Manenberg.
Metro police spokesperson Ruth Solomons said the suspect was the second minor to be arrested for a similar incident in less than 48 hours.
On Saturday, metro police officers arrested a 14-year-old boy for possession of a prohibited firearm in Hanover Park.
Solomons said the 17-year-old was arrested earlier on Monday, while officers were on patrol in Manenberg.
"Just before 1pm, officers saw an unknown person walking down the street, carrying a plastic bag. When he saw the patrol vehicle, the suspect ran away into a nearby house and threw the bag behind a couch. Further investigation revealed the bag contained a Norinco pistol with the serial number filed off, and 16 rounds of ammunition."
