The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has confirmed the arrest of five of its members linked to the unauthorised interception of an alleged group of smugglers in Limpopo.
The SANDF said the group allegedly conducted an operation in Artonvilla with two undocumented Zimbabwean nationals on Tuesday night.
According to preliminary reports, two shots were fired and the illicit goods were seized and unlawfully concealed at the base.
SANDF spokesperson Prince Tshabalala said they would cooperate with SAPS and SARS to address the issue.
"The SANDF views this allegation in a very serious light. Such conduct undermines the integrity of the defence force and the trust placed in its members by the Republic of South Africa. The SANDF reiterates once again that its zero-tolerance stance on corruption, smuggling and misconduct within its ranks."
