CAPE TOWN - A 24-year-old suspected gunman is being treated in hospital under police guard after being arrested in connection with the recent shootings at Athlone Magistrates Court.
The suspect was allegedly involved in a shooting inside the court premises on Friday last week, which left a suspected gang member dead.
The victim was due to appear in court when he was shot by gunmen who fled the scene.
Moments later, a man and a woman were wounded in separate shootings not far from the court.
"The suspect is in hospital receiving medical treatment under police guard after being shot by an alleged rival gang member. Once formally charged, he is expected to appear in the very same court where the incidents took place,” said police spokesperson Andre Traut.
Traut said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests cannot be ruled out.
