CAPE TOWN - A ballistics expert has been questioned in the Western Cape High Court about her interaction with an alleged corrupt cop in the murder trial of "Steroid King" Brian Wainstein.
Alleged underworld gang boss Jerome "Donkie" Booysen and 11 others face 36 charges related to Wainstein's murder in 2017 and other crimes.
A policewoman from the ballistic unit at the South African Police Service (SAPS) forensic science laboratory in Plattekloof testified about how co-accused Wayne Henderson allegedly refused to take fingerprints from a firearm related to a nightclub security war in 2017.
It's the State’s case that Henderson, who is a former Sea Point police officer, agreed to accept a R100,000 bribe from accused number four, Sam Farquharson, to jeopardise the investigation.
Henderson is accused of not collecting a firearm which he was supposed to examine for fingerprints.
The witness was questioned, "Who is it that gave you the approval to go ahead with the examination despite the fingerprints not being taken?"
"I received an email from one of my superiors that said I could proceed with my examination," the witness replied.
The witness said Henderson informed her unit that she should continue with her ballistics report despite being instructed to collect the firearm for fingerprints.
