CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town said more support was needed to bolster the Dial-a-Ride service.
This comes after the Western Cape High Court ruled that the service must continue operating in its current form.
The city previously stated that the service would be downscaled due to budget restraints.
However, the Western Cape Network on Disability argued that the decision placed thousands of people at risk of losing their jobs and violated constitutional rights.
MMC for urban mobility, Rob Quintas, said the city hopes the court process may unlock funding needed from other organs of state.
"This extension provides an important window to engage in a broader conversation about the respective mandates and responsibilities in the provision of specialised services such as Dial-a-Ride. In the meantime, the city continues to invest heavily in universally accessible public transport which remains our core mandate."
