JOHANNESBURG - Former African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson Pule Mabe has submitted representations seeking to have his fraud and corruption charges withdrawn.

It was revealed during his appearance in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday that Mabe, along with his wife Matlhekelo, wants their faces dropped.

The couple, along with five co-accused, appeared in connection with an alleged irregular tender awarded to Mabe’s Enviromobi company in 2017.

The tender was to provide the City of Ekurhuleni with 200 waste collection vehicles.

Former ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe is taking a similar route to that of his successor, Zizi Kodwa, who submitted representations to the Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions in a bid to have his charges dropped.

Kodwa’s fraud and corruption charges were eventually withdrawn last year with the assistance of prominent lawyer Zola Majavu.

Majavu has also advised Mabe to follow the same legal route by making similar submissions to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Speaking to reporters after his court appearance today, Mabe confirmed the submissions have been made.

"My lawyers are handling the submissions, and I wouldn’t want to get into the theatre of what is happening."

The case has been postponed to February next year as the state reviews Mabe’s submissions.
