CAPE TOWN - A three-month-old baby, who was rushed to hospital after being caught in gang crossfire in Bonteheuwel, has died.
Medical personnel confirmed that the infant did not survive the attack.
Police said two unidentified men entered a home on Yellowwood Street, Bonteheuwel and opened fire, leaving the baby with serious injuries.
The suspects remain at large after fleeing the crime scene.
Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi said the attack is believed to be gang-related.
“Bishop Lavis detectives are hard at work pursuing leads in a bid to apprehend those who are responsible for the death of a three-month-old boy and the attempt to kill an adult female in Yellowwood Street, Bonteheuwel, this morning, Friday, 22 August 2025."
FATHER OF INFANT IS A GANGSTER
Chairperson of the Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum, Graham Lindhorst, and Ward Councillor Angus McKenzie have told EWN that the father of the murdered boy is allegedly a known gangster.
Lindhorst added that he’s been warning police about the threat of gang violence for months.
“It's shocking! The community is angry because the shootings in that area have been going on for a long time, notwithstanding what some people are saying, that Bonteheuwel is the safest place. It is not safe. There are shootings every day.”
