JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela has promised to grant amnesty to e-hailing drivers who may be experiencing permit application issues.
This comes after a number of operators took to the streets to hand over a list of their demands to the MEC and the provincial legislature on Tuesday.
The drivers ventilated many grievances, including the backlog of permit applications.
The MEC said that she would exempt drivers who are awaiting their permits from penalties.
"I even said to all leaders, not taxis only, to those who have been operating illegally, if they present a case that is: 'The department that has been delaying me, I have applied here myself', I will give them amnesty, you will not even be fined. But we can't just say we are giving amnesty to people we don't know, and people that we have not seen."
