JOHANNESBURG - The case against a woman accused of running over a 13-year-old during a traditional ceremony in Ekurhuleni in June has been postponed.

Martha van der Walt is facing a charge of culpable homicide after ploughing through a group of girls in Germiston, killing Pretty Mahlangu.

The girls were attending a traditional coming of age ceremony at the time.

Van der Walt is currently out on R5,000 bail.

There was a large crowd of angry teenage girls and Katlehong community members outside the Germiston Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Some of the girls wore black with traditional Zulu beads around their torsos, neck and head, as they would wear in a traditional ceremony.

The community, carrying posters with the slain teenager’s face with the caption, “Justice for Pretty” said they were at the court in support of the family.

Van der Walt made a brief appearance at the court, where her matter was postponed for further investigation.

EWN understands the video footage showing Van der Walt ploughing through the group of girls is still under investigation.

The matter will return to court on 26 September.
