CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Community Police Board's Nyanga sub-district will on Saturday launch its #SilencetheGun campaign.
The campaign aims to clamp down on illegal firearms in the area.
#SilencetheGun centres around encouraging members of the community to report crimes and to notify law enforcement of any illegal firearms.
Nyanga has ranked fourth in the country for murder in the quarterly crime statistics.
Chairperson of the Nyanga sub-district, Martin Makasi, said that the community has had enough of the violence.
"Our youth are at the receiving end of this violence that is taking place in our communities. Because remember, gang groupings, they target youth in terms of recruitment. They target youth in terms of asking them to do certain things on their behalf. So, people that are dying mostly are young people, the perpetrators are young people."
