Lusikisiki mass murder trial: State to call next witness

MTHATHA- A fifth witness will be called on to testify in the Lusikisiki mass murder trial in the Eastern Cape on Friday.
On Thursday, a crime scene expert from the SAPS national office, who was deployed to process the deadly scene shared his testimony.
Six men are accused of planning and carrying out the bloody hit on 18 relatives and community members during a gathering.
They will return to the Mthatha High Court, sitting in Lusikisiki, on murder, firearms, and ammunition-related charges.
So far, the state has led evidence from five witnesses in the matter. However, it remains unclear as to how many more witnesses are to be called due to safety issues.

This week, the state led evidence from three witnesses without any delays and glitches as experienced last week, something families of the victims have welcomed.
"As far as the witness process is concerned, yeah, we are happy that it is on-going now doesn't look like there is any hiccups," said David King, who speaks on behalf of the families.

On Thursday, a crime scene expert detailed the gruesome scene and how he processed it as he gathered evidence.
Most of the defence lawyers did not cross-examine the witnesses.
A new witness will today give their statement to the court.
