CAPE TOWN - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is confident of making major inroads in Cape Town and the Western Cape when the party heads to the local government elections in 2026.

EFF leader Julius Malema said the party’s growth projections point to electoral improvement not just in the Western Cape, but also in the Eastern Cape.

Malema was addressing a press conference in Cape Town on Thursday to give an update on the party’s birthday preparations on Saturday.

Malema said the EFF chose Khayelitsha as the venue for its anniversary because it’s been neglected by the Democratic Alliance (DA)-governed metro.

He said the people of Khayelitsha continue to live in squalid conditions with poor sanitation and no basic housing.

“It is for this reason that the EFF has chosen to host its 12th anniversary in Khayelitsha. We must be where the people are, especially the most marginalised, because they are the base, home, and shield of this movement.”

Malema added that all research points towards growth in electoral support in the region.

“We are making huge inroads, and it’s scientific. The Western Cape is one of the provinces where we increased our numbers in the last elections in this province, but research shows you that the EFF is going to have a huge increase in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape.”

Malema said the anniversary celebrations will be a “festival of the poor”, and the party expects thousands to come out in support from across the metro.
