JOHANNESBURG - Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie has suspended his deputy Kenny Kunene from all party activities for a month.

Kunene will be investigated after he was found at the home of Katiso "KT" Molefe, the alleged mastermind of DJ Somebody's murder in 2022.

Kunene confirmed being at Molefe’s home on Sunday when the suspected killer was arrested by police.

But he said he was there to facilitate a meeting for journalists from his online publication Africa Global News for a potential exclusive story.

McKenzi said he would write to the City of Johannesburg to have Kunene removed as Transport (mayoral member of the council) MMC until the investigation is done.

“Kenny Kunene will be investigated by lawyers of good character, and while he’s being I’ll write to have him removed as MMC. “

SUSPENSION NOT ENOUGH

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg said the suspension of Kunene from all party activities by the PA is not enough.

The DA said hanging out with suspected murderers and bringing the entire executive into disrepute is punishable.

Caucus leader Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku said Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero must remove Kunene from his post as MMC permanently.

"A paid, month-long holiday is not an option for Kunene. Nothing short of his unconditional removal will suffice, pending the outcome of both ethics and criminal investigations into his links to suspected murderers. Unfortunately for McKenzie, we do not have faith in his so-called internal investigation."
