CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance says there was never a selection panel that made the controversial Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) board appointments.
DA MP, Karabo Khakhau, said that Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane had been misleading Parliament about the panel's existence from the very beginning.
Khakhau said that four out of five people named had so far denied being on Nkabane’s "independent panel" that evaluated the appointments of the boards.
The board appointments had to be cancelled after an outcry because African National Congress (ANC)-aligned people were appointed.
"We're very much, as the DA, at a point where we’ve concluded there was never a SETA selection panel that was set to evaluate the appointment of SETA board chairpersons."
She said it was time for the president to remove Nkabane.
"If she said that the ANC did not work with her, she must be willing to take the blame alone, having master engineered this alone, which is highly unlikely. But the bottom line is that President Ramaphosa must fire her."
