Earlier this year, in March, EWN sat down with SAPS Deputy National Commissioner responsible for crime detection, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, following claims of brewing tensions between himself and KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
In a wide-ranging interview with EWN’s Orrin Singh, Sibiya revealed that tensions between himself and Mkhwanazi stemmed from the murder investigation into Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes, when Sibiya instructed Mkhwanazi’s deputy to come to Gauteng to brief former Police Minister, Bheki Cele, on the investigations.
Despite the tensions between the pair, Sibiya claimed he deeply respected Mkhwanazi as a fellow officer and suggested they had resolved their disputes. He further spoke about a concerted effort by forces to link him with alleged Gauteng underworld boss and tenderpreneur Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.
