CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) said that it is confident that laying criminal charges against African National Congress (ANC) ministers is being taken seriously by law enforcement.

The party laid criminal charges against two ministers in two weeks both for misleading and lying to Parliament.

Last week it was Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane over the SETA board panel selection and claiming it was “independent”.

On Thursday the party laid criminal charges against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, accusing him of lying to Parliament when he denied knowing Brown Mogotsi, who is alleged to have influenced and interfered in police decisions.

DA deputy chief whip Bax Nodada said that the party had to take action against the the minister of police.

"We have done this just nine days ago to the minister of higher education and training, which is now directly being investigated by the Hawks who we actually met. This means that these cases of corruption and lying to Parliament are being taken seriously."
