JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal said the sentencing of the man convicted of killing former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa is a step forward for the justice system.
On Monday, the Pietermaritzburg High Court sentenced Sibusiso Ncengwa to 25 years behind bars for the 2017 murder.

Ncengwa pleaded guilty, admitting to charges, including murder, attempted murder, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The ANC in KZN said Ncengwa’s sentence sends a strong message that those who try to silence freedom fighters will face the full might of the law.
The party described Magaqa as a brave, principled leader, whose commitment to justice continues to inspire generations.
He was shot and killed in Umzimkhulu, KwaZulu-Natal, in 2017 and the matter was investigated by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Unit, which subsequently arrested Ncengwa and others.
It was only in June that Ncengwa confessed to the murder and named a former mayor and manager from the Harry Gwala Municipality and a former journalist.
While the ANC welcomes the sentencing of Ncengwa, they have said that they will closely monitor how the proceedings for the remaining two suspects in the matter will unfold.
