JOHANNESBURG - A small group of disgruntled Protea Glen residents in Soweto demonstrated in the area on Monday, demanding answers for continued water woes as they enter a second month with dry taps.
The community in Extension 16 complained, saying it had to contend with recurrent water supply issues.
Joburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Tshabalala said that the area was not affected by the current Rand Water maintenance project, which began in May and is set to end on 21 July.
One resident, Nhlanhla Khomola, said that her house reeked of human waste because she had been unable to flush her toilet.
"Right now it's even worse because its school holiday. Kids use the bathroom like nobody's business and now we are forced to stay in smelly houses because we don't have access to water. They have to relieve themselves and we go use the bushes outside, we have to use our homes with smelly poop."
