BARBERTON - Close friends of late former Deputy President David Mabuza have been reflecting on the impact he had on their lives, with some sharing that he even paid for their tuition fees.
African National Congress (ANC) NEC member and water and sanitation deputy minister, David Mahlobo, said it was through Mabuza's support that he was able to enroll at the University of Zululand.
Mahlobo was speaking to reporters outside Mabuza’s home in Mpumalanga, where a prayer service was held in honour of the former deputy president.
Mabuza passed away last week after a short illness.
It has been a difficult period for the former deputy president's family, as they learn to live without a man they so deeply cherished.
Mahlobo said that while Mabuza's passing remains painful, his kindness must be a story well told to the public.
"I met comrade Mabuza in the early 90s. He played a role, along with Matthews Phosa, to take a number of us to school in preparation for the role in government. I worked under his administration from 2009 to 2014."
The family, alongside government and the ANC, will hold three memorial services on Thursday to honour Mabuza's legacy.
