JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg said all political parties that voted to retain the African National Congress (ANC)’s Dada Morero as mayor were effectively endorsing what it described as his poor performance.
Morero survived a DA-sponsored motion of no confidence on Wednesday.

The DA said it wanted him removed due to his failure to improve service delivery in the city.
More than 144 councillors in the Johannesburg council voted against the DA’s motion of no confidence in Mayor Dada Morero.
The majority of support came from the ANC, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Patriotic Alliance (PA), and several smaller parties, who together hold the balance of power in council.
DA regional leader, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, said these parties owed Johannesburg residents an explanation for backing a mayor that her party believed was underperforming.
"These parties have kept a failing mayor and his failing executive in power. They have kept our streetlights off, and roads filled with potholes. It has been made clear, again, who is on the side of service delivery, and who is on the side of positions.”
The DA and its allies supported the motion, while ActionSA chose to abstain.
