CAPE TOWN - Efforts to get power back up and running again in some parts of Belhar were underway on Wednesday.
Some residents in Piano, Trumpet, and Waveren Streets, as well as De Mist Avenue, have been without electricity for 15 days now.
Criminals are accused of targeting electricity substations in the area, resulting in at least six substations vandalised over the past three weeks.
A group of Eskom technicians braved the Cape storm to try and restore power to areas that were still affected by the more than two-week power outage.
Piano Street resident Danielle Fester told Eyewitness News that the situation had negatively impacted many families in her area.
“Especially the elderly residents in this area, in this road particularly, who are on medication, namely insulin and other meds which need to be refrigerated and oxygen as well.”
Fester added that her children, who were busy with school assessments, had also had their lives turned upside down.
