JOHANNESBURG - Some Alexandra residents say they're fed up with being used as voting tools only to be neglected by political parties once they’re in power.

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba launched the party's campaign for next year's local government elections in Alexandra township on Monday.

However, his presence wasn't welcomed by all, with some community members saying they’ve grown weary of politicians.

Mashaba arrived in Alexandra with a shovel and a pothole patching machine, attempting to repair the many potholes.

He was disturbed by the strong smell in the community, which is mainly caused by sewage and illegal dumping.

These were some of the problems he promised to address during a door-to-door campaign if his party is elected to govern.

But one resident didn’t mince his words, telling Mashaba that he was not going to vote for ActionSA or any other political party.

"There's nothing politicians can still do to improve our lives. I predict that no party will get an outright majority ever again. Voters are punishing political parties for their mistakes."

Mashaba believes ActionSA is best equipped to fix Alexandra.
