JOHANNESBURG - Former secretary-general of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, Floyd Shivambu, is due to hold a media briefing on Thursday amid uncertainty over his political future.
Shivambu was recently axed as the party’s secretary-general following his trip to Malawi, where he visited the church of wanted fugitive, Pastor Shepherd Bushiri.
Since ditching the red overalls of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for the camouflage gear of the MK Party, Shivambu has had an eventful seven months at the country’s official opposition party.

Shivambu struggled to connect with ordinary MK Party members, who felt he was fast-tracked into a leadership position he did not earn.
This culminated in an expletive-laden Twitter feud with the daughter of the MK Party president, Duduzile Zuma, who called Shivambu an unwanted mafikizolo, another word for newcomer.
At a rally this weekend, MK Party leader, Jacob Zuma, said that members who stepped out of line would be removed from their positions.
"We have had seven secretary-generals in this party, because we don’t play. Even if you think you are big, loved and everything else, we don’t care."
While Shivambu's social media accounts shows he is still an MK member, his media briefing on Thursday morning has not been shared on the party’s official communication platforms.
