JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Health says it doesn’t expect disruptions to services at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg amid ongoing renovations at the facility’s mammography unit.
The department said the upgrades are scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.
It said a contingency plan is in place for equipment that is currently out of commission, including a CT scanner that has reached its end of service life.

Gauteng Health spokesperson Motalatale Modiba adds that the facility has implemented plans to ensure that patients are not affected by the hospital's upgrades and maintenance plans.
"In the interim, the facilities made provision by securing a mobile mammography unit, the pink truck that is outside the entrance of the emergency area, to assist with the screenings of patients. And patients who are scheduled for appointments have been contacted and alternative arrangements are being made where necessary to ensure that services are not interrupted to patients."
