JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have launched an inquest of investigation after human remains were discovered this week in an open veld in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg.

The charred remains were discovered on Thursday by community members.

It’s understood that the charred body was unidentifiable due to the severity of the burns.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko said that while investigations get underway, the human remains have since been sent to pathology for forensic analysis.

"On Thursday, 12 June 2025, police responded to a scene in Eldorado Park Extension 6, where community members discovered burnt human remains in an open veld. The deceased was unidentifiable due to severe burns."
