JOHANNESBURG - Fiery Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Liam Jacobs has quit the party, with the Patriotic Alliance (PA) announcing via social media on Saturday morning that he was their newest acquisition.

The DA said that a formal resignation had not been submitted; however, Jacobs informed North West leader, Joe Mcgluwa that he was leaving the organisation.

The 24-year-old Jacobs previously served as leader of the DA's student organisation and joined Parliament following the 2024 general elections.

He's caught the attention of some across the media landscape over the social media posts of his time in Parliament, drawing both criticism and compliments over his approach in the Parliament subcommittees.

Just this week he clashed with the PA's president, Gayton McKenzie, who was appearing before the portfolio committee on sports, arts and culture, where McKenzie accused Jacobs of being rude.

McKenzie, in reading the MP the riot act, told him while the DA secured the majority of the coloured vote, it didn't bother to appoint any coloureds to positions in government.
