CAPE TOWN - A legal expert says the State's case against alleged underworld gang boss Jerome "Donkie" Booysen and 11 others would not be weakened by the murder of security boss Andre Naude.

Naude's murder in Parow on Thursday follows that of alleged underworld kingpin Mark Lifman, who was shot dead in George seven months ago.

Both deceased were on trial for the murder of "steroid king" Brian Wainstein, along with Booysen and 11 others.

Naude is the fifth accused in the criminal trial to be assassinated.

The trial is being heard in the Western Cape High Court.

Legal expert Christhenus van der Vijver said the trial would proceed despite Naude's murder.

"If you decide to prosecute ten people, then you as a prosecutor, you must have a prima facie case against each of them. Nine can be taken out and you can still have a conviction against the last one."

Van der Vijver believes the State still has a strong case against Booysen and his co-accused.
