2 cops appear before Kroonstad court on charges of rape, conspiracy to commit rape

JOHANNESBURG - Two police officers appeared before the Kroonstad Magistrates Court in the Free State on Friday, on charges of rape and conspiracy to commit rape.
The officers, both aged 25 and stationed at Bloemspruit and Heuningspruit police stations, were arrested last week.
It’s understood that the officers went to a nightclub for drinks, where they met two women, both aged 21.
The group all agreed to leave and go back to a guest house together.
That’s where it’s alleged one of the officers then proceeded to rape one of the women, and the women later reported the crime at a nearby police station.
One of the officers will remain behind bars and will be back in court later in June for a formal bail application, while the other was released as police didn’t have enough evidence to implicate him.
