CAPE TOWN - A law enforcement officer accused of kidnapping and murder will join four of his co-accused at the Blue Downs Magistrates Court on Thursday to apply for bail.
They are accused of kidnapping, extorting, and killing a man who intended to buy a vehicle that he saw advertised online.
The officer made his first court appearance on Tuesday, where he indicated to the court that he would be appointing a private lawyer to represent him in this case.
The State alleges that the law enforcement officer transported the potential car buyer in a State-branded law enforcement vehicle and kidnapped him.
It's alleged that the officer drove with the deceased from Bellville to the scene, where his body was later found buried in a shallow grave near Monwabisi Beach.
The law enforcement officer was arrested following investigations that involved using data from the tracker of the law enforcement vehicle and footage from cameras.
The prosecution said it would oppose their release on bail due to the severity of the alleged crime.
