DURBAN - Students at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) say they will not stop demanding justice for slain student Sisonke Mbolekwa, who was shot and killed while protesting at the institution in April.

Students want the bail of the accused staffer, Manelisi Mampane, to be revoked.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Youth Command at the institution says it will fight for the Mbolekwa family to see justice.

Youth command member Orediretse Masebe said, “You would know that universities are ordinarily gun-free zones, yet a residence manager trained, and has expertise Wednesday in dealing with students, even in situations of high tensions of conflict comes to campus with a gun, an unlicensed firearm on top of that, so we believe that his intentions on that day were indeed to kill Sisonke Mbolekwa and the other students who were injured.”

Masebe adds that student safety is not guaranteed at the institution.

“We believe that his bail must be revoked because his proximity to university systems allows unprecedented access to students, some of whom will become potential witnesses.”

Attempts to get a comment from the university were not successful.
