MAHIKENG - The family of award-winning actor Presley Chweneyagae believes that while his death was untimely, his legacy will linger for generations.

The 40-year-old was honoured on Tuesday at a memorial service in Mahikeng, where mourners gathered to celebrate his life.

Chweneyagae died last week due to respiratory issues.

A vibrant mood, contrary to what one would have expected, filled the Mmabatho Convention Centre, as messages of encouragement and fond moments were shared in memory of Chweneyagae.

But behind the tributes, the grief of his sudden passing lingered.

During the programme, the stage was lined with candles, photos and videos of Chweneyagae throughout his acting career.

His sister-in-law, Bianca Carmicheal, said Chweneyagae was a powerhouse.

"He gave voice to stories that needed to be told. He gave depth to the human experience."

Now the family once again prepares to honour his life in another memorial later this week in Pretoria, where he will be buried over the weekend.
