JOHANNESBURG - The daughter of a man who died in a crossfire shooting between police and alleged suspects at the Zamimpilo informal settlement in Riverlea said her father was on his way home from his night job.
Gauteng police said they were conducting a routine patrol in the area on Tuesday night when they identified a suspicious vehicle with three occupants.
The Toyota bakkie drove away when police tried to stop it, leading them into the informal settlement where a shootout ensued.
The victim’s daughter, Ronnel Lottering, said they found his body lying in an open field between some of the informal settlement homes.
“Apparently, the situation we heard was there was a crossfire shooting here, and he came from a piece job. We're very emotional, traumatised, he’ll be missed by three grandchildren and my mom and my brother.”
Meanwhile, police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said they have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
