JOHANNESBURG - A police officer has shot and killed one person, injuring two others in a road rage incident near Machunwini, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.
It’s alleged the constable was travelling with two of his colleagues from the Eastern Cape to the Free State when they missed a roadworks detour and collided into barricades.
Community members who saw the crash alerted emergency services and also attempted to assist the trio.
It’s understood when a tow truck arrived, the constable fatally shot the driver.
When his colleagues and onlookers tried to diffuse the situation, the constable opened fire, wounding one sergeant and a community member.
“When his colleague intervened, the constable reportedly shot him and another community member. The constable then reportedly turned the gun on himself. The constable and the tow truck driver were declared dead at the scene, whilst the sergeant and the other man were rushed to the hospital. The third police officer survived the shooting,” said KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda.
