JOHANNESBURG - The credentials of a lawyer are being established in the Senzo Meyiwa trial on Monday, with a witness from the Legal Practice Council (LPC) on the stand.

Khulani Sambo, an administrator from the LPC, started testifying on Monday morning on the identity of Advocate Dominic Mjikayo, the lawyer whom the State claims represented one of the intruders who allegedly murdered Meyiwa, Bongani Ntanzi.

According to the State, Mjiyako was with Ntanzi when he made a confession statement, but Ntanzi denies this, saying he had never met Mjiyako.

On Monday, Sambo confirmed that Mjiyako was a lawyer but said his Fidelity Fund certificate number was duplicated with another lawyer’s.

"Upon receipt of this email from Advocate Mjiyako, I then proceeded to contact the system developer from the Fidelity Fund offices to proceed to check the duplicate in terms of the numbers for this Fidelity Fund certificate that was issued to Mr Mjiyako and Miss Scholtz."
