CAPE TOWN - The presiding judge in the Joshlin Smith trial, Judge Nathan Erasmus, has warned legal teams to be ready for sentencing proceedings to commence on Tuesday.

Joshlin's mother, Kelly Smith, and her co-accused, Jacquen Appollis and Steveno van Rhyn, have already been found guilty of kidnapping and human trafficking related to the little girl's disappearance.

The convicts are set to hear their fates on Thursday.

State prosecutors have indicated that victim impact statements will be ready before the sentencing proceedings commence on Tuesday.

A kidnapping and human trafficking expert is also expected to testify on behalf of the State.

Defence attorneys for the convicts have not disclosed whether they will call any witnesses to take the stand.

Appollis and Van Rhyn will be held at Malmesbury Prison, while Smith will be held at the Langebaan Police Station for the duration of the sentencing procedures.

Judge Nathan Erasmus said that a separate hearing would be held to determine the indemnity of former-accused-turned-State-witness Lournecia Lombaard at a later stage.

Erasmus believes there's a possibility new evidence may come to light during the sentencing proceedings this week.
