JOHANNESBURG - Sixteen people are being treated at various hospitals in Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal following an accident along the N2 highway that claimed the lives of eight people.
It's understood that four of the injured are in a critical condition after a tow truck struck the rear of a H100 Hyundai delivery bakkie that was transporting 24 Zion Christian Church (ZCC) members, most of them women.

The congregants were travelling to Dukuduku in Mtubatuba.
Transport department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya says the MEC has conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
"The MEC has also mandated the RTIA [Road Traffic Infringement Agency] to immediately keep in touch with the Road Traffic Management Corporation to ensure that an investigation is conducted around this horrific accident."
