JOHANNESBURG - Ekurhuleni Mayor Doctor Xhakaza is not entirely satisfied with his executive, pointing out there are still areas where it needs to improve.

Xhakaza, who has been the metro’s mayor for just over a year, has been giving a performance assessment of his first 12 months in office.

His Cabinet comprises African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillors who have not been seeing eye-to-eye since his election into office.

When Xhakaza was elected, he swiftly removed the EFF's Nkululeko Dunga from his position as the finance MMC.

Xhakaza believed that Dunga was not the suitable candidate for the role and appointed an ANC councillor in his place.

EWN understands the ANC in Ekurhuleni is looking to exit its coalition with the EFF but lacks the numbers to do so.

When asked whether he was satisfied with his executive, he said: "We have produced a governance report that we have now shared with our provincial leadership, where we indicate areas that require improvement. I mean, it’s been 12 months and we made a performance review. You do so not to reshuffle or remove anyone, but so that there is a collective agreement that this is where we are and where we want to go."

Despite being coalition partners, the EFF is also not happy with the ANC, saying it’s failing at maintaining service delivery.
