JOHANNESBURG - The higher education department has apologised for the delayed payment of student allowances to Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students.
National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) beneficiaries at TVET colleges who were meant to receive their monthly allowances on the 25th of this month only received their funds on Sunday.
The department said the delay in disbursing allowances was caused by a system glitch.

Higher Education Department spokesperson Camagwini Mavovana said NSFAS will ensure such issues don't happen in the future.
"NSFAS is actively collaborating with its financial services institution to resolve this issue to prevent any recurrence in the upcoming months. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delays in allowances – delayed payments are unacceptable. We recognize the impact of these delays as students depend entirely on their allowances for living expenses. We are committed to ensuring that our students receive the essential support efficiently and promptly. This commitment stems from our comprehensive understanding of the students' circumstances, and we unequivocally sympathize with their predicament."
