MEC for Safety and Security JP Smith said a total of 226 cell phones were donated to neighbourhood watch members in June of 2024.
"These smartphones are especially useful for Neighbourhood Watches to access our Trusted Partner App, which was specifically designed to improve communication and coordination between safety stakeholders."
He added that phones have been donated in Kleinvlei, Mfuleni, Diep River, Atlantis, Delft, Manenberg and Mitchells Plain.
"At our most recent mass information session for Neighbourhood Watches, we featured a demonstration on how this app enhances incident reporting and real-time response efforts."
