CAPE TOWN - Fire resources have been called in from neighbouring districts to assist with a wildfire in Cape Town.
A wildfire burning in the Silvermine section of Table Mountain National Park has intensified significantly due to a sudden shift in wind direction.
At least three water bombing choppers are assisting ground crews.
Some Tokai residents remain on standby to evacuate their homes, as a fire encroaches on their properties.
Firefighters have spent much of the day battling the blaze fanned by strong winds.

Several roads in the area have been closed, including Ou Kaapse Weg Mountain pass, to allow emergency teams fast access to the fire line.
In a snap call, the toll gates on Chapman’s Peak have been opened to alleviate traffic buildup in the deep south.
Cape Town traffic’s Jandre Bakker said, "The situation will be evaluated in an hour again. The area is experiencing high traffic volumes due to a fire along Ou Kaapse Weg. If you can avoid the area at all, please do.”
More than 90 firefighters are working tirelessly across five fronts.
