PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa says he and United States (US) President Donald Trump are singing from the same hymn book, calling for the conflict between Russia and Ukraine to end as soon as possible.

On Thursday, Ramaphosa welcomed Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to South Africa for an official working visit.

Ahead of that meeting Ramaphosa had a telephonic meeting with Trump.

He says part of the conversation with his US counterpart was the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“We both agreed that the war should be brought to an end as soon as possible to prevent further death and destruction.”

Ramaphosa says they also discussed the deteriorating diplomatic relationship between South Africa and the US.

“President Trump and I also agreed to meet soon to address the various other matters regarding our relations between South Africa and USA. We both spoke about the need to foster good relations between our two countries.”
