CAPE TOWN - Four policemen accused of pulling off a jewellery heist at a house in Cape Town appeared at the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Thursday.
The police officers are accused of stealing R20 million worth of jewellery at the home of a Nigerian businessman in Llandudno in September 2024.
Bradley Minnaar, Mthuthuzeli Mafanya and Bathandwa Soldati are out on bail, while Jacobus Groenewald remains behind bars.
Part of their bail conditions include reporting to their nearest police station before leaving the area.
Groenewald was denied bail earlier in 2025 after the court found that he might interfere with the evidence and witnesses.
He was also allegedly caught with a large consignment of drugs in prison earlier this year.
State prosecutor Siyabulela Boto said, "The State is awaiting a letter of authority from the DPP [Director of Public Prosecutions]. Therefore, we’re requesting the matter be postponed in order to obtain the letter of authority in relation to whether the State is to proceed with the prosecution.”
Their case has been postponed to 26 June 2025 for further investigation.
The State said there are also three outstanding witness statements to be obtained.
Meanwhile, it’s understood that Minnaar got into trouble earlier this year for violating a bail condition when he allegedly attended a family emergency.
He’s applied to the court to relax some of his bail conditions.
Magistrate Sibongiseni Mtwana's response: “With regards to the application for the relaxation of the bail condition, the application is granted. We are going to amend the conditions accordingly.”
The case has been postponed to June 26 for further investigations.
