2 border officials appear in court over alleged bribery at Beitbridge border post

JOHANNESBURG - Two border officials have been busted for alleged bribery at the Beitbridge port of entry.
The Border Management Authority (BMA) said the pair allegedly took a bribe to let through a taxi carrying five undocumented passengers.
The intelligence-led operation led to nine arrests, including the officials, the taxi driver, a suspected facilitator and the undocumented nationals.
All of the suspects appeared in the Musina Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The matter was set to resume on Thursday for bail applications.
BMA spokesperson, Mmemme Mogotsi, said, “The operation executed on Tuesday was led by two executive members of the BMA. Following extensive movement monitoring and the deployment of advanced technological surveillance at the port.”
