JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Northern Cape is preaching unity as it kicks off its tenth provincial elective conference.
The Northern Cape is the first provincial branch to hold an elective conference for this cycle.
The three-day conference is being held at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberley.
The outgoing ANC Northern Cape chairperson, Zamani Saul, is eyeing a second term as the party’s provincial leader.
The Northern Cape premier is expected to face minimal competition for the top spot.
ANC leaders have preached for unity and support of the new provincial that will be elected at the completion of the conference.
The northern cape is one of the ANC’s smallest but stable branches.
In last year’s general elections, the ANC lost its majority in the province, falling to a historic low of 49%.
This is despite the ANC governing the province without a coalition partner.
