CAPE TOWN - Police have arrested three men for the unlawful possession of firearms.
On Monday night, members patrolling in Epping were informed by a complainant of two suspects robbing people with a firearm.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said the two suspects, aged 16 and 17, were expected to appear in Cape Town Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
"The members searched for the suspects and found them walking on the railway lines in Pinelands. They were searched and found in possession of an imitation firearm. The suspects were pointed out by the complainant and were arrested on charges of possession of an imitation firearm and armed robbery."
Authorities also managed to arrest another man in Heinz Park on Monday for the illegal possession of a firearm along with ammunition.
Twigg said the suspect did not have a license to own a firearm and was arrested.
"Members of the Anti-Gang Unit conducted foot patrols in Heinz Park, when they stopped and searched a male who appeared to be nervous when he saw the police members. They found a 9mm pistol with four rounds of ammunition in his possession."
The suspect is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court once charged.
