ANC describes late Pope as a champion of human rights
The party says Pope Francis will be remembered not only as the head of the Catholic Church but as a spiritual force who stood for what’s right.

JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has described the late Pope Francis as a champion of human rights as the global community mourns the 88-year-old’s passing.
The party says Pope Francis will be remembered not only as the head of the Catholic Church but as a spiritual force who stood for what’s right.
Throughout his Papacy, the pontiff has been hailed for showing compassion, advocating for justice and defending marginalised groups.

ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri says Pope Francis’s ability to lead beyond religious, political, and cultural divides was inspiring.
“From the Vatican to the furthest margins of society, Pope Francis walked with the excluded, spoke for the voiceless, and challenged the powerful to put humanity above greed.”
