JOHANNESBURG – The Springbok Women started their 2025 campaign with a 48-26 win over Spain in Alicante on Saturday.

The match was part of their preparations for the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England, which is now only 129 days away.

The Bok Women scored five first-half tries, of which three were converted, as they built a deserving 31-5 lead over their hosts.

They added a further two tries to put them out of reach in the second half, but the Spanish side finished the stronger as they piled on the pressure and were rewarded with three well-deserved tries near the end.

Bok Women's coach Swys de Bruin said their first phase of Rugby World Cup preparations was off to a flyer.

"The tour to France and Spain was part one of our preparation, and I am very pleased about the outcome we achieved here today,” De Bruin said afterwards.

"We scored some beautiful long-distance tries, which was something we worked on and wanted to add to our arsenal as we prepare for the Rugby World Cup in August, while our set piece delivered as usual.

"Credit to the defensive effort out there, we really laid down a marker in that area as well."

The Bok Women will take a short break before starting preparations for the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup in Madagascar in June, and then following that up with a two-Test series against Canada in July.
